3 Ways to Celebrate Women

Hi neighbors –

Happy International Women’s Day!  But I suppose regardless of what day it is we all have the chance to celebrate women and their contributions to history and humanity.  Plus, March is Women’s History Month so we have the whole month – not just a day – to celebrate a woman we know, commemorate her and maybe pat ourselves on the back a little bit.  *wink* ;)

One way you can celebrate women is to check out the numerous national programs recognizing the contributions of women and also bringing attention to major issues affecting women.  Here are a few examples I’ve really enjoyed.

1. AKQA ad firm created the ad (posted above) encouraging women to wear red lipstick today in solidarity to show our power.  You can also go to the ad campaign’s flash site and learn more about women’s issues happening in China.  Check it out.

2. Learn about women’s history in the expansive library of online exhibits from the National Women’s History Museum’s website.  Super neat!

3. For more International Women’s Day events check out the website dedicated to the special day.

If you’re looking for local ways to celebrate women here are some Inland Empire organizations empowering women in business, lifestyle and more.  If you are member of any of these organizations please leave us a comment below and tell us what you think is the benefit of being apart of the group.

1. California Women Lead, Inland Empire Chapter – a non-partisan, issue neutral association committed to encouraging and training women to be leaders in their communities.

2. Inland Empire Women’s Business Center and Coachella Valley Women’s Business Center – assists existing and aspiring women business owners to start and grow successful businesses by providing valuable resources.

3. Alternative to Domestic Violence is a private, non-prof org serving all of western Riverside County with a range of services aimed at breaking the cycle of physical and emotional violence within families and the wider community.

4. The Women of the Inland Empire Self Defense Seminar empowering women and teaching how to kick some ass!

5. Inland Empire Women’s Empowerment Group is a diverse group of women who attend various social activities that enrich their lives.  Activities like health walks, movie nights and a soon to be scheduled “Learning about Blogging Essentials Class.”

6. The vision of the National Association of Women Business Owners – Inland Empire is to unite women business owners in the Inland Empire for Profit, Influence and Community!

7. SoCal Lady Bloggers is a great group of female bloggers in Southern California who help empower, educate and provide community and resources to its members so that they can be successful with their passion for blogging.  {I’m recently a new member so I can say first hand that this group is active and awesome!}

Another way you can celebrate women is by supporting your favorite local female owned business like some of the following:

  • Keyways Winery (Temecula) – the only female owned and managed winery in the Temecula valley.  You go, girl!
  • Mrs. Tiggy-Winkles (Riverside) – gift shop with so many items you could be sucked in for hours…it’s a good thing :)
  • Stamp Your Heart Out (Claremont) – all things stamps, scrapbooking, paper crafts and more!
  • Cheating a little bit here but the Sew Funky Market happens at the end of this month and it has a lot of great female owned businesses showing off their talents with uniquely hand-crafted goods.
I know we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of the numerous female owned businesses in the IE so please don’t hesitate to give us a shout on our Facebook wall or tweet us and tell us what your favorite Inland Empire female owned business is.

Till next time…
