Hello Cupcake Lovers!

Were you able to attend this year’s Inland Empire Cupcake Fair “Cupcakes for a Cause?” If so, I hope you were able to taste the delicious creations presented by Jen Sinambela, owner of Queen Sin’s Cupcakes! Her Caramel Macchiato cupcakes were so scrumptious, she won 1st place in Professional Best Overall. We are so glad that they were able to attend this year’s Cupcake Fair and share their delicious creations with us. We also had the chance to interview Jen and get to know her and her business a little bit better. Want a peek into the life of a first place cupcake baker? Well here it is:


Q. Tell me about yourself and your business.

A. I am a mother of 3. I really started loving baking at 16 or 17 and more over the past 5 or 6 years when working on developing my recipes. My husband and I started Queen Sin’s Cupcakes last year. We are currently an online based business, but starting April 29th we will have cupcakes available from Tuesday-Saturday at Everything Sweet Cake & Candy Supplies in Redlands.

Q. What inspired you to start your business? 

A. Until two weeks ago, I was a nurse for 12 years, but people were always telling me to start baking professionally since they loved my baking so much. I decided to close the nursing chapter of my life and jump into baking.

Q. How did you come up with the name of your business?

A. I was always the only girl growing up so I was treated like a princess and once I got married people said that I ascended into a queen. I played off of my last name (Sinambela) since a lot of the time people were not able to pronounce it. I would always tell them to just shorten it to Sin. That’s how I came up with Queen Sin’s Cupcakes!

Q. What are your aspirations for your business?

 A. I am starting to sell out locally (at Everything Sweet in Redlands) on April 27th, and next year I would love to open up our first storefront. I am hoping to expand and open more stores wherever people need cupcakes. I had also competed in the Indio Cupcake Challenge and won second place which is why I am so excited for IECF 2014. I would love to start doing more baking competitions. Who knows? You might see me on Cupcake Wars sometime soon!

Q. Where are you located and why did you choose the Inland Empire?

A. We are located in Beaumont, but I get orders from Palm Springs all the way to LA. I have even had people ask if I ship cupcakes out of state! I grew up in Moreno Valley and lived in Redlands for a while Where I met my husband and got married. I can’t imagine living anywhere else because it’s what I know and what I love. If we were to ever move away from Beaumont I think we would move to Redlands since that’s our hometown.

Q. Where do you do your baking?

A. I do all of my baking at home. I have a cottage license which allows me to bake and sell out of the comforts of my home kitchen.

Q. Do you take requests or do you give your clients options to choose from?

A. I always take requests. I have tons of clients who ask for certain flavors that they like and using those ideas, I create a cupcake for them to fall in love with. Make a delicious enough concoction? You may even get a cupcake named after you. I have recently been getting more and more cake requests but I focus mainly on cupcakes and cake pops. I encourage people to expand my horizons with more creative requests so that I can learn more.

Q. What are you most popular flavors? 

A. My most popular cupcake flavors are Red Velvet, Carmel Macchiato, and Chocolate Turtle.

Q. What unique flavors do you have & how do you come up with them? 

A. Some of the unique flavors we have are Carmel Macchiato (which I came up with because I love drinking them), Root Beer Float Cupcake (which is a Root Beer vanilla cupcake with Madagascar bourbon and a Root Beer drizzle), Almond Island Joy (which is names after my good friend Joy since it was a creation for her), and Cinnamon Caramel Pecan. Many of my creations come from when I walk through the store and flavors pop out at me that I think would meld together deliciously.

Q. What is your favorite flavor of cupcake? 

A. Oh boy. I LOVE everything Red Velvet. And of course no Red Velvet would be complete without cream cheese frosting.
