“May olive your dreams come true” ~ Temecula Olive Oil Company (their motto they even write on the bags)

Hi neighbors –

Happy National Mom & Pop Small Business Owner’s Day!  We’ve shared one interview already in this small business interview blog series and in commemoration of National Mom & Pop Small Business Owner’s Day we’re sharing our second interview with Temecula Olive Oil Company.  Some might argue that Temecula could be considered part of San Diego, but in my opinion, as long as it’s within the Riverside County borders it’s all IE!

I wanted to include Temecula Olive Oil Company in this blog series because I visited one of their retail stores in Old Town Temecula and was majorly impressed.  I spent almost a third of my day trip in their store alone.  As you can see from my photos below they have a large retail space with a wide variety of products all made from olive oil they produce.  Ah-mazing!  They even produce laundry detergent and small votive candles made from olive oil, which I wish I purchased on my trip.  Instead, I walked away with a lovely buttery orange blossom soap.  I’m down to the very last nub of it now *tear*.  I was also blown away by their olive oil tasting bar and their super friendly and knowledgeable staff (also bummed I didn’t get a good shot of their tasting bar as you can see from my pictures below).

Anyways, store, product, retail space, and staff were all amazing.  So without further ado, say hello to Temecula Olive Oil Company…

Q: How would you describe your business?
A: Temecula Olive Oil Company operates four retail tasting rooms featuring extra virgin olive oil we craft using traditional methods. Tasting olive and balsamic vinegar is complimentary every day.   In addition, we carry an array of cured olives, spreads, sea salts, rubs, herbs, pasta, sauces, cookbooks, gift items, apparel, and bath products made from olive oil like soaps, butter for your skin, lotion sticks and lotion bars.

Q: Where is your business located? What city?
A: Old Town Temecula, Old Town San Diego, on Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach and on Main Street in Seal Beach; hours of operation and street addresses as well as an online store can be found at www.temeculaoliveoil.com

Q: How long have you been in business and in Temecula?
A: Temecula Olive Oil Company began in Temecula 11 years ago; in San Diego 4 years ago, Solana Beach opened in late 2010 and Seal Beach in early 2011

Q: What makes your business unique?
A: We are the growers! Many people have no idea what true authentic extra virgin olive oil is supposed to taste like, or where it comes from. We have a ranch 18 miles east of Old Town Temecula and with a prior appointment, people can visit the grove and hear about the process of extracting oil from the fruit. At the ranch and in our tasting rooms, people can try our complimentary samples and they take away an appreciation for using olive oil in their own kitchens.

Q: Why did you choose to locate your business in the IE?
A: The Mediterranean-like climate is ideal for growing olives.

Q: What do you like about being in the Inland Empire?
A: The community is supportive of local growers. Our Olive Oil Club members come from around the world but we enjoy a strong base of local patrons who have made Temecula Olive Oil Company products part of their lives. We’re grateful for that!

Q: What do you hope to see happen with your business in the next year?
A: That more and more people will visit the ranch and become educated to sustainable agriculture, buying local, the health benefits of using olive oil and consider making Temecula Olive Oil Company part of their special activities. In addition to the ranch being a terrific venue for private events, we have two historic loft apartments which are also available for lunches, meetings and other events.

Q: Do you have a family tradition that’s IE specific?
A: TOOC enjoys watching the Fourth of July Parade going down Front Street in Old Town Temecula.

Thank you, Temecula Olive Oil Company for taking the time to share a little bit about yourself and your small business in the Inland Empire.  It was great meeting you.

Here are some pictures from my trip.  Have you been to Temecula Olive Oil Company or tried one of their products?  We’d love to hear about it!  Please leave us a blog comment.

Till next time…

Love all their handwritten product signs. Adds that extra special touch.
